CIRES: Content Based Image REtrieval System Help
The weight settings (circled in the graphic
below) can be changed to give more importance to Perceptual grouping, Color or
Texture. The default settings give equal weightage to all three feature vectors.
The user can set these to any value such that the total sums to 1. A setting
such as Perceptual grouping = 1, Color = 0, Texture = 0 is perfectly valid. With this
setting only the Perceptual grouping feature vectors will be used in ranking
the results for the query image, and Color and Texture feature vectors will be igonored.
Certain weight settings work better for
certain classes. Thus for example, structural queries have better results if a
slightly higher weight is placed on Perceptual grouping. Images of flowers may
have better results with more emphasis on color.

The Texture settings allow the user to select either all three
channels (L = luminance, A and B = chrominance) or just the L channel
(roughly this would correspond to the gray scale texture).
